How To Program A GE Universal Remote WITHOUT Codes

By

GE universal remote control allows you to control multiple audio/video devices such as TV, DVD, DVR, satellite, cable, and audio using only one remote. To setup and use this General Electric remote, you will need to program it to control the device you want. In this tutorial, we will see how to program a GE universal remote without codes using the Auto Code Search method.

Many of the most popular TV brands have universal remotes that are programmed with codes to control individual models. If your remote is not compatible with your television, then you may be out of luck. However, there are universal remotes that can be programmed without specific codes such as the GE universal remote control.

Method 1: How To Program A GE Universal Remote WITHOUT Codes

You can program a GE Universal remote without codes by using The Auto Code Search feature that automatically searches for the correct code through all the codes stored into the remote memory.

Follow the steps below to program a GE universal remote without codes using the Auto Code Search functionality:

  1. Manually turn on the device you want to control
  2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator light stays on and then release the button.
  3. Press and release the button corresponding to the type of device you wish to control (TV, DVD, etc)
  4. Point the remote at the device you wish to control then press and release the POWER button.
  5. After pressing the POWER button, your device should turn off.
  6. When the device shuts off or begins playing, press the 1 button to save the code.
  7. Point the remote at the device and see if the remote works properly.

If your remote is not working properly, the first thing you should do is check the batteries in the remote and if they are running low, replace them with a new set. If the batteries are fine, try to reprogram your device by going to step 2 and start the auto search again until your device finds the proper code for your device.

Method 2: How To Program A GE Universal Remote WITHOUT Codes On Older Models

The old GE universal remotes must be programmed in a slightly different way than the new models:

  1. Manually turn on the device you wish to control.
  2. Press and hold the “SETUP” button until the indicator light comes on and release it
  3. Choose the type of device you wish to program and press and release the corresponding button (TV, DVD, CBL/SAT, etc.). The indicator light will turn on.
  4. Point the remote control at the device you wish to program and press and release the “POWER” button for a TV or the “PLAY” button for any other device to start the search for codes. The remote control will search for the right code and the LED will begin to flash. (The remote control must be pointed at your device during this search as the remote control is testing a list of codes one by one until it finds the correct code for the device.)
  5. Once the correct code has been found, the device will turn off (if it is a TV, or start playing if it is a DVD for example). Quickly press button 1 to save and lock the code. You have to be very quick because you only have about 2 seconds to lock the code once the device has turned off or started to play.
  6. Start the device and point the remote control at it and check that it works properly by testing the most useful buttons. If it does, the GE remote control programming has worked and you don’t need to do anything else, if it doesn’t, go back to step 2 and start the programming again.

Method 3 : Program GE Universal Remote Without Codes on SOME OLD MODELS

If none of the methods above worked, there is a manual method to program a GE Universal Remote without codes on some old models. To do this:

  1. Manually turn on the unit you wish to program.
  2. Press and hold the “SETUP” or “SEARCH Code” button until a light comes on, then release the button.

  4. Now you must press and release the “Power” button every 2 seconds until your device turns off. This allows you to test the codes stored in the remote control memory one by one until you find the right code. You may have to press the power button 200+ times before you find the right code.
  5. Once the devicehas turned off, press the SAVE or ENTER button to save the code. The indicator light will turn off and exit the programming mode.
  6. Check if your remote control has been programmed correctly and that the buttons work. If not, repeat the programming until you find the correct code.
